This month I participated in
’s Poetry Pie Writing challenge. I haven’t been writing much lately, and this was a lovely way to dip my toes back in. Here are my nine haiku, and Lorrie’s prompts that encouraged them, when I chose to use the prompt. Thank you so much, Lorrie!_____________________________ The pop of the bat echoes under ice blue sky spring is here again ___________________________ For my daughter, on her first trip overseas. I flung my heart a- cross the sea, and prayed she’d grow and return to me _____________________________ Nodding off in church floating on a scripture sea count it as a prayer ____________________________ For my sons. They played cards all night only won one game apiece thrilled all the way home ____________________________ prompt: write about tonight’s moon Bright white shadow lights my way upstairs - faithful friend there she is again ___________________________ Yesterday’s tree was bare. Today’s buds everywhere. When does growth begin? _____________________________ prompt: break the “rules” of haiku… so, I added a title Date Night Late night cards for two faint and far away a hoot great horned owl - no. Two. ____________________________ prompt: A haiku that can be spoken aloud in one breath Scattering grass seed slipping through my fingers on a breeze and a prayer ______________________________ prompt: something that surprises you! Baseball flying high meets plump white cherry blossoms snow storm in springtime! _________________
“Nodding off in church
floating on a scripture sea
count it as a prayer”
—I love this 💛. It was great to meet you today.
Tavia, this haiku collection is lovely: a celebration of spring, family, and nature. There are so many strong images. I think my favorite might be the snowstorm of cherry blossoms.
